What started as an idea on two sheets of A4 paper, when Martyn woke up in the middle of the night, some three or four months before being made redundant from his last full-time position, now 25 years later, a successful outsourced marketing and communications agency with a coterie of high profile clients and a quality crew, all working hard to take our customers to new heights.
The early morning handwritten notes included how the company would be established, that it would offer consultancy and outsourced marketing services, the name of the company, which derives from the hot air balloon flown by Martyn and his father at the time, and even a list of potential associate providers of services, such as website and graphic design, and even potential clients. One or two of those are actually still customers today and many of our clients have been with us for 10 years plus.
Calibre took off with two major clients, a supplier to Nobo, one of Martyn’s previous employers, who immediately requested a meeting and came to an arrangement, plus a property company, which would have been an early forerunner to Rightmove, had the conditions at the time been sufficiently suitable.
Thanks to prior experience in the construction and audio visual markets, some of the early customers came from those sectors, which we still specialise in today. However, we can effectively turn our hand to most products and services, applying the marketing principals and techniques, much as an accountant or solicitor would do for any company or organisation.
We now have a clever and committed crew, comprising of account managers, who work very closely and as part of the in-house team of our clients, complemented by specialists in particular marketing aspects and activities such as online marketing, media and press relations, social media, graphic design, website development, etc. We also are fortunate enough to have a portfolio of quality clients across many different products and services, including B2B and B2C.
We have the benefit of being virtual, being very appropriate in the current era of working from home. Our crew is spread across the South East of England, often meaning that one of our crew will be close to you, to provide a high level of personal service.
