It’s all in the Brief!

The quality of output is often dependent upon the quality of the original instructions.

You get what you ask for! Often if you do not receive what was expected, it can be due to the quality of the specification or of the original brief.

Therefore, it is essential when giving details of your requirements to a supplier, particularly a graphic designer, website developer, exhibition stand builder or similar, to provide them with a comprehensive and unambiguous brief. That way expectations will be met and, maybe if the provider is particularly good, exceeded.

It is always useful to tell the supplier what the objective is of the product or project that you are purchasing. This helps give them an appreciation of what you are trying to achieve and they can keep this in mind and refer to it as they develop the materials or similar.

The final specification should be detailed. The way that the material or similar is to be provided should be documented. Also of course the timescales should also be specified, especially where there is a deadline to be met.

It is certainly not always necessary to provide a budget. If you have defined the brief correctly, then potential suppliers should quote accordingly. Giving an indication of the spend available can result in paying over the odds.

Of course, we have lots of experience in generating detailed briefs and so delivering successful marketing projects. We can do this for you or provide advice, often making savings as a result. Please contact us us to discuss further.
