Website design is not to be confused with the development of your site. The graphic design of the home and other pages is how your website will look and indeed feel to the user. Providing them with an aesthetically pleasing view and experience, whilst also reflecting well on your company or organisation is key.
There are certain design parameters and essential aspects to include in any website design. We have a list of these that we utilise when briefing a graphic designer on the styling of a new website and so please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like a copy.
In the beginning, at the outset of the internet, websites tended to be developed by graphic designers. This meant that many were designed and styled professionally. However, as the complexities of website coding and technical development became a skill in itself, the disciplines of website graphic design and website development have diverged, with it now being best to utilise, often separately, the services of a graphic designer and a website coder.
Our experience with Website Design
At Calibre, we principally prefer to take this route, unless we are developing a low cost site and perhaps using an off-the-shelf website template.
It is important to say, that your website will look how you both expect it to and would like it to. It should follow the conventions of your corporate branding, for consistency and continuity. In some cases, the graphic design of the website will also be the lead for literature, etc. As you can see on our website development timeline, we usually ask the client to provide examples of websites that they like the design and styling of as reference points.
