DigiFest, the tech conference for business, recently held its third annual event. The one-day event that always takes place on the sunshine coast, Eastbourne once again provided a jam-packed schedule with a wealth of speakers and a show floor with local companies pushing boundaries in the world of tech.
Calibre were sponsors once again and a few of the crew ventured down for the day. We attended several talks and have some high-level details to share from each below:

How Customer Insights Drive New Product Success:
Here we learnt about the steps taken to really understand the customers’ needs both before and during development of a new product, service or technology, such as an app or similar. It was interesting to note that focus groups still form an important part of research, particularly in the B2C environment.
TV Advertising for All:
Kai Zammit of Smokescreen Visuals in Eastbourne gave a great presentation telling us that really closely targeted advertising is now available on television. In particular, thanks to Sky AdSmart viewers can be aimed at as small a radius as five miles and you can even be seeing an advertisement different to that of your neighbour, in the same programme at the same time! This opens up TV advertising, with all of the benefits of reach and reputation to small and local businesses.
Responsible AI: The Role of Ethics, Regulation and Governance:
Glenn Chilcott from First Avenue continued on the hot-topic of AI. He explored what responsible AI means including the murkiness of copyright when it comes to AI content. The AI models, although designed to be neutral, are still slightly biased due to being written in code by humans who are naturally biased.
Fast, Focused and Fearless: How SMEs Can Outmanoeuvre Big Brands and Own Their Niche:
Glenn Davidson from Tomango helped us see how small businesses might not have the power of a large business but they do have the flexibility and agility to implement decisions quickly. He shared a couple of real-world examples where he was able to help his clients adapt to change quicker and faster than larger rivals and ended up taking more market share as a result.
Once again, a great event. Huge thanks to the team at SwitchPlane for their hard work and dedication throughout the year to bring this popular event to Eastbourne.
