Fundraising for Dorothy House Hospice
Hi, I’m Irulan, Content Writer and Client Account Manager at Calibre Marketing.
I’m currently in training for a once-in-a-lifetime trek on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in April 2026. A three day walk, reaching an altitude of 4,630 metres above sea level and camping out in very basic conditions. In preparation for this, I am taking on an epic challenge that is a bit closer to home. I’m walking the 630 mile South West Coast Path from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset, which includes the whole of the Devonian and Cornish coastline.
This path is a wild, windy and breath-taking journey along the rugged English coast, and no, I am not doing it all at once. I am tackling it in stages, sometimes walking for up to 8 hours a day with my four-legged walking buddy, BeeBee by my side. Of course, there is always time for a well-earned half a cider and chips at the end of a long hike, which BeeBee insists on sharing with me
So far, we have covered 99 miles (159 km) from Minehead to Clovelly, climbing 3,898 metres (12,788 ft) in altitude along this stunning coastal path. It has been tough but exhilarating, and the perfect training for the high altitudes of the Peruvian mountains.
I’m doing all this to raise funds for Dorothy House, the incredible end-of-life hospice that cared for my brother Elton back in 2019. This charity trek is my way of giving back, and I’m aiming to raise £6,000 to support the amazing work they do.
At Dorothy House, the cost of caring for one patient is £905 a day. This includes nurses, doctors, physiotherapy, complementary therapies, accommodation, food and emotional support, which you can never put a price on. If you are able to, please make a donation to Dorothy House to honour Elton’s memory and in support of all the families who are currently going through the loss of a loved one.
